Digital streaming has transcended the new media landscape, specifically in the field of sports. In my term paper, I will look into how traditional media companies have been adapting to the evolving media landscape by purchasing the sports rights to leagues such as the NBA, NFL, UFC, etc. These sports rights allow media companies to be able to provide digital streaming platforms so that people can watch these sports games or matches in real time. We've seen this trend soar over the past couple of years as media companies are looking to new sorts of services to keep fans, especially younger ones, interested. This is due to the fact that TV viewership is declining overall and sports games is one of the few areas where there is still a mass audience. Furthermore, I will analyze how digital streaming subscriptions and platforms have grown throughout the past couple of years and look at how the prices for sports rights paid by media companies have been rising, an indication of how valuable the rights to these digital streaming platforms have become. To conclude, I will discuss how digital streaming technology in sports has disrupted the whole industry overall and where I see it going in the near future.
